Gopher deserves more love By Edward Willis (http://encw.xyz) Published Jan/12/2023 When you're surfing the Web in a text browser, like lynx, you can run into formatting problems and broken scripts, because the Web is no longer made for plain text. But when you're in Gopherspace, everything IS made for text, so you get a fanastic experience. For those unaccustomed to using Gopher, it's super simple to get started burrowing. Simply install lynx from your package manager, or if you're on Windows, enable Windows Subsystem for Linux, download a Linux flavor from the Microsoft Store, and then install lynx. Then simply type the protocol ahead of the URL, so Lynx knows to look for a Gopherhole. Eg. "lynx gopher://encw.xyz". A great place to start is floodgap.com (remember: gopher://floodgap.com). There you can get access to the Veronica-2 search engine, and lots more info about Gopher.
